Clermiston and Drum Brae are well-laid-out residential suburbs of north-west Edinburgh, with broad avenues and gentle gradients that suit first lessons. Clermiston Road is the main spine, with Drum Brae giving a straight run to Queensferry Road and the A90 once you want faster traffic.
The Drum Brae roundabout and the junctions around it are a popular lesson stop for practising lane choice and signalling, and the slopes up towards Corstorphine Hill supply realistic hill-start practice. It's a calm area where progress tends to be steady.
