With waits like these, booking your test early is usually sensible — you can book at any test centre, not only the nearest, and compare the waits above before you choose. Your lessons then need to peak around your test date rather than months before it, so it's worth agreeing a plan with your instructor: weekly lessons that build towards the date, or a short intensive course timed just ahead of it.

Which Edinburgh test centre has the higher pass rate — Currie or Musselburgh?
Between April 2025 and March 2026, Musselburgh's pass rate was 49.5% (6,850 tests) and Currie's was 41.6% (6,202 tests), against 50.0% across Great Britain. A centre's pass rate also reflects who takes their test there, so treat it as one factor rather than a verdict on the test.
How long is the wait for a driving test in Edinburgh?
Half of the learners who took a car test in September 2026 had waited 20 weeks or less at Musselburgh and 20 weeks or less at Currie. You can book at any DVSA test centre, not only the nearest, so it is worth checking more than one.
How long is the wait for a driving test in Glasgow?
For learners who tested in September 2026, the median wait at the Glasgow-area centres ran from 4 weeks at Dumbarton to 23 weeks at East Kilbride. At the four centres on the edge of the city it was 22 weeks at Anniesland, 20 weeks at Baillieston, 18 weeks at Shieldhall, 21 weeks at Bishopbriggs.
Does a higher pass rate mean an easier driving test?
Not necessarily. Pass rates move with who is taking tests at a centre, how many first-time candidates there are and how well they were prepared, as well as with the routes. Small centres also swing more from year to year. Use the figures to plan, not to pick a centre on pass rate alone — a good instructor prepares you for whichever centre you book.
Where do these figures come from?
They come from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), published on GOV.UK under the Open Government Licence v3.0: pass rates from table DRT122A (car tests, April 2025 to March 2026) and waiting times from table DRT122F (September 2026, last updated by DVSA on 14 October 2026). DVSA mark figures since April 2025 as provisional.
