Dalkeith is Midlothian's main town, with a busy High Street, one-way sections and regular bus traffic. Learners here get a good test of urban driving in a smaller, more manageable setting than the city centre.
The A68, A7 and the Dalkeith bypass offer faster A-road driving, and the nearby Sheriffhall roundabout is a well-known big junction for practising lane choice. Quieter residential areas in Eskbank and Mayfield suit early lessons.
Dalkeith learners usually test at Musselburgh via the bypass; Currie is another option.
