Balerno is a village at the foot of the Pentland Hills with a real rural-edge driving experience: narrow roads, bends, hills and national-speed-limit sections only minutes from home. It gives learners skills that city-only drivers sometimes miss.
Balerno's Main Street and village roads are calm for early lessons, and the road towards Currie links to Lanark Road and the bypass. The Currie test centre is a short drive away.
Currie is the test centre for Balerno learners; its routes often include rural sections like those you'll practise here.

Pass rate: car tests, April 2025 to March 2026. Median wait: September 2026. Source: DVSA (DRT122A, DRT122F), Open Government Licence v3.0. How to read these figures →
